The University of California Mediterranean Studies MRP
Funded by the University of California Office of the President with a grant of $492,000, administered by the UC Santa Cruz Institute for Humanities Research, and directed by Brian A. Catlos (History) and Sharon Kinoshita (Literature) of UC Santa Cruz under the aegis of the Mediterranean Seminar, from July 2010 to June 2015 the University of California Multi-Campus Research Project (MRP) in Mediterranean Studies brought together faculty and graduate students from seven UC campuses (Berkeley, Davis, Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Santa Cruz) and outside institutions to collaborate on research and pedagogy across periods and disciplines. The core program consisted of a total of fifteen quarterly workshops to be held at participating UC campuses and those of collaborating institutions (including San Francisco State, Loyola Marymount, and CU Boulder) . The MRP also supported a variety of Mediterranean Studies sessions, conferences and held at the University of California and at participating institutions, as well as at meetings of scholarly associations including the American Historical Association, the American Academy of Religion, the Modern Language Association, the Medieval Academy of America, and the Middle East Studies Association. The MRP also c0-sponsored three of our NEH Summer Institutes for University and College Professors, which were held in Barcelona, Spain in 2010, 2012 and 2015. See Past Events or details. We are currently applying for new four-year MRP grant, and look forward to resuming our activities at the University of California.
